What is person-centred psychotherapy?

Person-centred psychotherapy focuses on creating a safe, empathetic, and nonjudgmental therapeutic relationship where clients can freely explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Clients set their own goals, if they have any, and commit as much or as little as they wish to the relationship. This approach allows clients to feel;

  1. Unconditional Positive Regard: You are accepted and valued unconditionally, regardless of your thoughts, behaviours or emotions. In this space, there is no judgment – only understanding.
  2. Empathy: I seek to deeply understand your experiences from your perspective, fostering a genuine connection and validating your feelings.
  3. Congruence: I operate with transparency and authenticity, allowing you to build trust and feel comfortable expressing yourself openly.

Whether you are interesting in starting therapy or if you are still exploring your needs from therapy, please read some background information about what you can expect from me:

Why choose person-centred psychotherapy?

  1. Empowerment: Unlike more directive forms of therapy, person-centred psychotherapy places the client in control of their therapeutic journey. The client is empowered to set their own goals, explore their own insights, and make their own choices.

  2. Unique experiences: The client will develop a deeper inner understanding, and cultivate the skills necessary for long-term personal growth and fulfilment.

  3. Cultivating resilience: Th client will not only address current challenges but also develop resilience and coping strategies to navigate future obstacles with confidence.

  4. Tailored to you: Person-centred psychotherapy is adaptable and inclusive, making it suitable for individuals from all walks of life, regardless of age, cultural background, or presenting issue. Whether the client is struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or simply seeking personal growth, person-centred therapy can provide the support and guidance needed.
